Car Seat Fitting Series: Belt It Up

Posted by Juliet Fernandez on

Using the vehicle's seat belt is a universal method for installing a car seat. Any car seat can be secured with the vehicle’s seat belt, even in vehicles with ISOFIX compatibility. Sometimes, using the seat belt can provide a safer and more secure fit than ISOFIX. However, this does not apply to vehicles with only one row of seats, such as UTEs or transport vans, where car restraints cannot be installed due to the lack of anchor points.

When installing a car seat with the vehicle's seat belt, be sure to follow the guide paths on the car seat:

  • Blue – for rearward facing
  • Yellow – for forward facing
  • Red – for boosters

  •

In most cases, an additional locking device is needed to ensure the seat belt remains secure over time. These devices include:

    • 3 Bar Gated Slide
    • Gated Buckle
    • SafeGrip Belt Clamp
    • Lockie

Recently, some car seat manufacturers have introduced built-in locking systems. While effectiveness varies, one standout is the Maxi Cosi Smart Lock, known for its ease of use and reliable security.
